Working Today, for Tomorrow's Success.

Adults returning to the community from jails and prisons face substantial challenges. Access to employment is a critical component of re-entry, as a steady job provides financial resources and social interactions that build motivation and a sense of hope, both essential ingredients in strengthening community connections and avoiding recidivism. Employ Milwaukee, working with the Wisconsin Department of Correction, is a leader in the Midwest Re-Entry and Employment Network (WREN) and is one of only two sites in the nation delivering Integrated Reentry and Employment Strategies (IRES). These research-based and proven best practices reduce recidivism and promote job readiness through both soft-skills building and other specialized services. Employ Milwaukee operates the Windows to Work program in Racine and an innovative Job Center at the Milwaukee House of Corrections to tailor services to each individual’s needs, including:

  • Education and training
  • Soft/cognitive-skill development, including financial literacy
  • Transitional-job placements
  • Non-skill-related interventions, including trauma-informed services and identifying appropriate public benefits, including for veterans
  • Non-transitional subsidized and unsubsidized employment
  • Career development and coaching
  • Job placement, retention, advancement, and follow-up services
  • Screening and selecting for Wisconsin expungement
