Earn & Learn participants Ayden and Aeron worked at the Center for Leadership of Afrikan Women’s Wellness (CLAWW) this summer, assisting with the organization's Sankofa Summer Drum Camp. They served as Assistant Drum Instructors, working alongside the Lead Instructor and helping campers learn and practice African drum beats and rhythms.
In addition to assisting with drumming instruction, Ayden and Aeron helped prepare the classroom for daily activities and lunch, provided supervision, encouraged campers, and maintained a positive, organized environment. The experience gave them an opportunity to practice leadership, communication, teamwork, and responsibility – all key skills in being job and career ready.
Ayden and Aeron contributed to a successful summer experience for CLAWW campers, whose parents shared that they enjoyed meeting new people, learning about African culture, performing, and building connections with other children. All parents who completed evaluations expressed interest in their children returning to camp next year.
"We are grateful to Earn & Learn for providing the opportunity to employ two young people and to strengthen our ability to offer a meaningful, culturally enriching summer experience for the children we serve," said Heddy Keith, CLAWW Founder and CEO.
