When Fedora Harris attended one of Employ Milwaukee’s hiring events, she planned to take it seriously, but didn’t expect to get a job out of it. At first, she found it tough to see the staff working the employer tables, as they had jobs and she was in the midst of her job search, not knowing when she would get an offer.

Fedora valued the variety of community resources present at the fair and visited most of the employer tables, receiving interview invitations from two employers. As she was about to leave, an acquaintance introduced her to staff at the CareTruly table, a personal care agency. She interviewed with CareTruly shortly after the fair and was hired as a Community Outreach Coordinator. In her role, Fedora visits patients’ homes, assists them with medical paperwork, and advocates for them at appointments.

“Even if I hadn’t gotten the job, I wouldn’t have walked away feeling like it was a waste of my time,” she said.

 At Employ Milwaukee’s next hiring event, Fedora returned in a new role- as an employer at the CareTruly table. It was a full circle moment for her. The other people tabling at the fair remembered her and were thrilled to welcome her back as an employer.
