Camp RISE Spotlight: Adonis P.
Adonis just completed his fourth year of Camp RISE, a six-week summer youth program which focuses on career exploration for kids ages 10 to 13 in Milwaukee. Through this experience, he gained maturity, learned how to handle situations appropriately, and developed more patience.
Adonis’ mother, Devonna, has seen the impact Camp RISE has had on Adonis throughout the years. “The first two years were very instrumental in shaping and forming him into the young man that he is now,” Devonna said. “Having that mentorship and guidance pushing him forward, I feel like that’s really going to help him be a more productive member of society overall.”
This year, Adonis highlighted the Esports field trip as one of his favorite memories from Camp RISE. On this trip, the campers learned about the Esports industry and how it intersects with growing career fields such as technology, media production, broadcasting, and marketing. They also focused on practicing teamwork and sportsmanship, while giving all the campers access to gaming consoles to play their favorite video games.
Career day was another important activity at Camp RISE this summer. Professionals from a variety of fields, such as firefighting, newscasting, healthcare, photography, engineering, education, forestry, and design, spoke to the campers about their careers. Adonis found himself particularly interested in photography after listening to a fashion photographer.
Next year, Adonis will be joining Earn & Learn, a youth program that provides meaningful work experiences to young people ages 14 to 24 in Milwaukee. While he doesn’t know where Earn & Learn will take him yet, he is excited to continue his journey of career exploration!
