Daniela Corona-Chavez’s story is one of ambition and the pursuit of a brighter future. Once unemployed and searching for a stable career, Daniela’s life took a transformative turn when she discovered the Center for Healthcare Careers of Southeast Wisconsin (CHC). Eager to enter the medical field, she submitted her application and was soon accepted into CHC’s Medical Assistant Accelerated Pathway to Employment Training (MAAPET) program, funded in part by Employ Milwaukee’s Department of Labor’s Nursing Expansion grant, the Milwaukee Equitable Nursing Development (MEND) Program.
Her journey began on May 6, 2024. Designed to fast-track aspiring medical professionals, the MAAPET program offers a rigorous blend of 10 weeks of immersive classroom learning and hands-on skill training, followed by 160 hours of clinical experience. This structure reduces typical training time by up to 85%, opening doors to rapid employment and sustainable wages for individuals like Daniela.
Daniela excelled in her studies, mastering a range of medical and technical skills, and soon transitioned into her clinical training at Ascension Wisconsin. Here, she embraced the opportunity to apply her knowledge in a real-world healthcare setting, gaining confidence and expanding her capabilities. Reflecting on her experience, she shared, “Being in this program has not only helped me grow and develop my healthcare skills, but it has also helped me grow my interpersonal skills by interacting with individuals from many different backgrounds.”
With her clinical training complete, Daniela took the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) medical assistant certification exam. Achieving her Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) credential marked a pivotal moment, symbolizing her transformation from an unemployed job-seeker to a certified healthcare professional. Shortly after, she secured a full-time position at Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s Shorewood clinic, where she now begins a promising career dedicated to patient care.
Daniela’s journey is a testament to the power of determination, innovative training, and the opportunities that come with community-focused programs like MAAPET. From jobless uncertainty to a thriving medical career, Daniela’s story is an inspiring reminder that with the right support and perseverance, a new chapter is always within reach.
